Job Type

Permanent, full-time role with consistent hours and potential for overtime depending on delivery volume.

Shift and Schedule

  • Standard 8-hour shifts

  • Occasional 10-hour shifts as necessary

This is an on-site, physically active driving position requiring regular travel within and potentially outside the Edmonton area.

Responsibilities

As a Class 1 Driver with Durabuilt, you will be an essential player in ensuring timely delivery and professional service. This position goes beyond driving – it’s about representing the company, engaging with customers and contributing to operational excellence.

Driving and Delivery Tasks

  • Safely transport company goods using a Class 1 tractor-trailer unit across various routes.

  • Ensure each delivery is timely, secured properly and completed to high service standards.

  • Handle product off-loading physically with the assistance of a swamper (helper) for most deliveries.

  • Adhere to load security practices to prevent product damage or road hazards.

  • Always carry a complete and functioning chain set and a chain repair kit, especially during winter months.

  • Use the Delivery Photo App to capture real-time proof of delivery, helping to confirm that shipments arrive intact and on schedule.

  • Maintain accurate logbooks – your log must be updated daily and must cover the past 14 days for regulatory inspection.

  • Collect customer signatures upon delivery. If no one is present, note the delivery time and your initials to document successful drop-off.

Daily Operations and Communication

  • Before each departure, ensure all snow and debris are removed from your vehicle, especially when leaving the Durabuilt shipping yard.

  • Fill out a trip sheet at the end of each workday, recording destinations, customer feedback and notable incidents.

  • Maintain clear communication lines with internal teams – including dispatch, customer service and fleet managers – to resolve scheduling issues or delays.

  • Uphold workplace safety standards by wearing required PPE at all times: hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and high-visibility vests are mandatory at all job sites.

  • Conduct both pre-trip and post-trip inspections to guarantee vehicle roadworthiness and safety compliance.

  • Complete a Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) daily before starting deliveries. Discuss and sign off with your swamper to ensure all safety risks are mitigated.

  • Comply with all safety and driving policies under Durabuilt’s internal safety programs and provincial legislation.

  • Immediately report unsafe conditions or delivery-related challenges to dispatch and the site supervisor before proceeding.

Educational and License Requirements

To qualify for this role, you must meet the following educational and licensing criteria:

  • Minimum Education: Completion of a high school diploma or recognized equivalent.

  • Licensing: Possession of a valid Class 1 commercial driver’s license is mandatory.

  • Driver Abstract: A clean and current driver’s abstract (dated within 30 days) must be submitted alongside your application.

  • Ongoing Requirement: You’ll be required to submit an updated driver’s abstract every six months.

  • Air Brake Endorsement: Preferred or required depending on route assignment.

Professional Experience & Skills

Ideal candidates will bring the following experience and capabilities to the table:

  • Driving Experience: A minimum of five (5) years operating a tractor-trailer combination.

  • Moffett Lift Experience: Prior experience with a Moffett or truck-mounted forklift is a strong asset.

  • Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with highway and delivery safety regulations including logbook protocols and chain-up procedures.

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of truck maintenance and minor on-road repairs.

  • Physical Endurance: Capacity to manage the physical aspects of the role – loading, unloading, chaining, etc.

  • Customer Interaction: Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-first approach.

  • Communication: Ability to convey messages clearly both verbally and in writing.

  • Decision-Making: Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work independently and also function effectively as part of a delivery team with a swamper.

  • Time Management: Ability to handle tight delivery schedules while maintaining accuracy and safety.

  • Organizational Ability: Strong skills in route planning, logkeeping and equipment checks.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding role that involves both driving and manual handling. The following outlines key physical and environmental requirements:

  • Lifting Demands: Must be able to lift and carry items ranging from light packages to heavy materials (0 lbs – 150 lbs).

  • Driving Duration: Long-haul driving up to 13 hours per day is expected including through challenging weather conditions like snow or rain.

  • Mobility Needs: Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting and pulling are essential to load and unload safely.

  • Physical Endurance: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, up to 75 lbs to waist height and up to 45 lbs overhead.

  • Schedule Flexibility: Standard workweek is Monday through Saturday, with occasional Sundays or additional hours depending on project urgency or client requirements.

  • Work Pressure: Expect time-sensitive tasks and fast-paced deliveries with little room for delay. Must be able to stay calm and efficient under pressure.

  • Multi-tasking: Simultaneously managing route adjustments, client communications and log entries is part of the job’s daily rhythm.
