Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
The individual appointed to this role will serve as both the Consultant Psychiatrist and the Responsible Clinician (RC), collaborating seamlessly with a highly skilled and multidisciplinary team. Key clinical responsibilities include:

Assuming primary responsibility for the mental health treatment and management plans of patients under care.

Providing comprehensive and timely assessments of new referrals alongside MDT colleagues.

Taking the lead in patient evaluation, diagnosis and individualized treatment planning incorporating input from family members and external health professionals.

Chairing multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings in line with national and organizational protocols.

Ensuring GP notifications and discharge summaries are issued promptly post-discharge.

Offering expert contributions to the hospital’s clinical governance strategy.

Drafting and reviewing reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managerial hearings and providing professional testimony where required.

Participating in the hospital’s non-resident, second-on-call rota system – rotating no more than once every seven weeks.
This part of the job is fundamental to ensuring that all psychiatric care administered at the hospital adheres to best practices and is tailored to each individual’s mental health needs. The consultant will be aided in these duties by a full-time Specialty Doctor or Advanced Clinical Practitioner and will have access to all necessary clinical and administrative support.

The consultant will work closely with ward managers and the hospital’s senior leadership team to ensure the facility meets and exceeds regulatory standards.
